Born: September 6, 1944 to Frances Lee & Harrison J. Spencer. Christian by faith. Graduated Valley High School, Pine Grove, WV. Excelled at academics & sports, being a Varsity Basketball stand-out & Baseball player. Officially appointed as 1 of 6 U.S. Naval Academy candidates that year by Congressman Arch Moore, Jr. Attended West Virginia University while Majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Then followed his dream to become a pilot by getting into the University's Flight School. Attended Sowell Aviation in Panama City, FL. & there attained both his Multi-Engine & Instrument Rating. Became the youngest person in West Virginia to achieve an Air Transport Rating. He became a Flight Instructor, an Allegheny Airlines Pilot & established the Fairmont Airport, operating Charter Flight services. Over 15,000 hours of Flight Time. Loved cars - rebuilding by hand both a vintage '58 Ford & a '48 F150 Truck to sterling condition. He is survived by his wife Sharon Hall Spencer, whom he met in 5th Grade & has been Married to her for 53 Years. Is also survived by Children David (Richmond, VA., Wife Jill), Gayle (Charleston, WV., Husband Scott) & Jamie (Murraysville, WV., Husband James). In addition, proud Grandparent to Grandchildren Austin, Ethan, Gracie & Grayson. Surviving Sister Sue Zills (New Martinsville, WV., Husband Bill) & Brother John Spencer (Cranberry Township, PA. Wife Kathy). Nephew Les Zills & Nieces Suzette Durig, Jennifer Novotny & Elizabeth Morgan. Several Great Nephews & Nieces. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 PM. at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, WV.
