Donald McClure

Visitation Location: Roush Funeral Home Visitation Hours: Thursday, December 19 (5-8PM) Funeral Service Location: Roush Funeral Home Funeral Service Time: Friday, December 20 (2PM) Donald McClure, 89, of Ravenswood, WV, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, December 16, at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. Donald was born on September 11, 1930, to Elijah and Mary Elizabeth Hill McClure in Alkol, Lincoln County, WV. He was the youngest of 13 children, 11 of whom survived into adulthood. Donald served in the US Army from 1952-1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Germany. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6669 in Ravenswood, WV, where he also served on the Rifle Squad with the post for funeral services. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Shirlee, and she preceded in him death on June 28, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Helen, Aracoma, Delores, Maxine, Madeline, and Imogene; and his brothers, Foster, Boyd, Elmo, and Harold. Donald was a member of North United Methodist Church in Ravenswood where he was a member of the choir for many years. He also played the guitar and sang tenor in the group known as "Every Thursday". In addition to his love of music, he loved sports of all kinds, especially the Ravenswood Red Devils, the Mountaineers, the Herd, and the Cincinnati Reds. Donald retired from Ravenswood Aluminum working 38 years in both the I & L and the casting departments. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy, and her husband, Brent of Ravenswood; his beloved nephew, who was like his brother, Edgel (Buck) McClure of Ravenswood, along with many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends, all of whom he loved so much. His viewing will be held at Roush Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and his funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Don Maxson and Pastor Tom Nolan officiating, with visitation from 1:00 pm until the start of the service. Burial will follow in the Ravenswood Cemetery in Ravenswood with full graveside military rites provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 335, Ravenswood, WV 26164, or to a charity of one's choice.
