Douglas Turnmire Carol Sue Groves, 78, of Ravenswood, WV, died November 14, 2016, at Holzer Senior Care Center in Bidwell, OH, where she was a resident since October, 2011. Born August 19, 1938 in Braxton County to the late Hollis Mullins and Gladys Lambert Mullins, Sue was raised in Dille, WV, graduating from Nicholas County High School in 1956. She married the love of her life, David E. Groves, in 1958, and after earning a degree in Secretarial Science from Capital City Commercial College in Charleston, Dave and Sue took up residence in Ravenswood. Sue was a member of Ravenswood Junior Women's Club, the Women's Support Group for Local #5668, and volunteered extensively for Relay for Life. Employed as a bookkeeper for Cope's Supermarket for 18 years, Sue was a renowned cook, loved to vacation with her family on The Lake of Woods in Ontario, Canada, and was entrusted for years as Treasurer at Cedar Run United Methodist Church on Flatwoods Road and more recently at Praise Cathedral in Ravenswood, where she was a member. Sue is survived by husband, David, of Pleasant View Ridge; sister, Marguerite (Dave) White of Madison, OH; three children, Julie (Mike) Long of Crown City, OH, Sandra Morris of Wilmington, NC, and Dr. Michael (Joy) Groves of Mouth of Wilson, VA; seven grandchildren, Ethan and Caitlin Long, Madeline (Kyle) Jefferys, Dana and Hannah Morris, and Matthew and Aaron Groves. Sue is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, by sisters-in-law Dorothy Groves of Ravenswood and Louise Groves of Arlington, VA, and brother-in-law Bill Bartley of Prattville, AL. The family wishes to express loving appreciation to the caretakers at Holzer Senior Care and to Sue's extended family, including especially Dave and Beth Moore and Dwayne Merritt. Sue was a person of considerable faith and resilience, loved her family unconditionally, and embraced with a self-giving spirit those blessed by her friendship. The family is receiving visitors at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, Thursday, November 17, 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The funeral (officiated by family friend Rev. Douglas Turnmire) is arranged for Friday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home. Burial is to follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery at 3:00 pm in Summersville, WV. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society in honor of Hannah Morris, to Hazel Brammer, 189 Miller Addition Road, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
