She was born on December 18, 1959, in Parkersburg, WV, daughter of the late Glenn and Delores Wasson Alfred. Penny was a 1978 graduate of Ravenswood High School. She started her nursing career in the trauma unit at Charleston General Hospital, and later continued her nursing career as an emergency room nurse at Jackson General Hospital. She eventually became a nurse in the office of Dr. Craig Swann. She loved to read her Bible, enjoyed camping, canning, and going to the Jackson County Gospel Sings. She loved her family, especially her grandbabies. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jack (Ronnie) Carte; daughter, Amber Carte Howery (Brian); son, Jonathan Carte; grandchildren, Zakkary and Roslyn Howery, Blake Carte, and Izabella Carpenter; sister, Peggy Stalnaker (Bob); mother-in-law, Emma Carte Settle; sister-in-law, Debbie Petry (Tony); several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11:00 am at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Craig Petry officiating. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Friday, February 23, 2018, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday. There will be a dinner at Free Will Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 5539 Flatwoods Road, Ravenswood, WV 26164, following the graveside service at Ravenswood Cemetery.
