He was born on October 14, 1929, in Mercer County, WV, son of the late Yates Kelby Gray and Elsie Sigmon Gray. He was a member of the Independent United Brethren Church in Ravenswood; the USWA 5668 in Ravenswood; and Ravenswood VFW Post 6669. He loved to woodwork, he made many swings and clocks. He was always smiling and while he was able, he never missed a military funeral service. He retired from Century Aluminum in Ravenswood, was a two-time enlistee of the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Gray of Ravenswood; sons, Steven (Carolyn) Gray, and Scott Gray; daughter, Susan (Keith) Alfred; grandchildren, Kelby (Kasey), Nathan (Alison), Megan (Corey), Kurt (Audrey), Natalie (David), Lydia, and Nicolas; great grandchildren, Kaden, Grayson, Kerrigan and Kohen; brothers, Louis Gray and Yates (Kathleen) Gray of Florida; sister, Madeline Marshall of Florida; brother-in-law, Paul (Linda) Williams of Georgia; and sister-in-law, Selma Bailes of Scott Depot, West Virginia. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2017, at 3:00 pm at the Independent United Brethren Church in Ravenswood with Kurt Gray, his grandson officiating, assisted by Pastor Matt Matics. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery with graveside military rites. Friends may visit the family at the church on Sunday, December 31, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
