Joan Agnes Walsh, 85, of Hastings-on Hudson and long time Dobbs Ferry resident, died on January 28, 2013. Born in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Vincent and Helen Walsh Cavanagh. Joan was raised in the Country Club section of the Bronx, attended Villa Maria Academy in the Bronx and graduated from the College of Mount St. Vincent with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She was employed by St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan as an RN. She was a long time School Nurse in the Dobbs Ferry School system. She also worked as a RN for the Sisters of Mercy at McCauley Center in Dobbs Ferry. An avid reader, Joan enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, and spending time with her family, especially the joys of her life, her beloved eleven grandchildren. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church. In 1951, Joan married James E. Walsh at Our Lady of Assumption Church in the Bronx. They moved to Dobbs Ferry in 1960. Her husband predeceased her in 1990. She is survived by her children, Joanne of Manhattan; James E. Walsh Jr. Teresa of Dobbs Ferry; Maureen Meehan of Darien, CT; Judy Kelly Timothy of Rye; and Colleen Pecylak Stephen of Hastings-on- Hudson; cherished grandchildren: Bill & Alicia Meehan, Dan Meehan, Katie Meehan, Meagan Kelly, Maura Kelly, Sean Kelly, Kaitlyn Pecylak, Stephen Pecylak, Allison Pecylak, and Lila Walsh. Her sister-in-law, Antonetta Cavanagh, several nieces and nephews and her dear friend Lila Trask also survive. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers Vincent and Donald Cavanagh and son-in-law, William Meehan.
