Anthony Joseph Capone, M.D.

Anthony Joseph Capone, M.D., 84, an Irvington, NY resident for 40 years, died May 22, 2012. Born the youngest of 5 children and raised in Mt. Vernon, Dr. Capone was the son of the late Dominic and Rose Capone. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant with qualifications as a Rifle Marksman during WWII and the Korean War and received the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the China Service Medal. Dr. Capone graduated from Bucknell University and completed medical school at the University of Rochester. He was awarded Phi Beta Kappa for high scholarship and honors for excellence in biology from the Phi Sigma Biology Society while attending Bucknell University. Dr. Capone practiced medicine as a Board Certified Surgeon and Fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. John's Riverside Hospital and Yonkers General Hospital where he served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Capone's private medical practice was located on Yonkers Avenue for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and joke teller. Dr. Capone also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and touring the country in his motor home. His greatest love was his family. The time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren at parks and family barbecues was priceless to grandpa and the children. Dr. Capone is survived by his children, Karen John Lally, Dominic Liza Capone, Lorri Jim Marshall and Anton Capone, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, brother Louis Capone, sisters Ann Bloomberg and Carol Rufino, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James Capone. Memorial Service will be Saturday 1pm Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. Memorial Visiting will be from 11 - 1pm.
