John W. Sanders, Jr., 76, of Irvington died January 19, 2012. He was the son of John, Sr. and Helen Putvah Sanders. At the age of 17 John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He became a Technical Sergeant and was stationed at Reese Air Force Base, Texas. John retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. Upon his retirement John worked for MetLife Insurance Company in the Sales Department for 18 years. His love for planes was further evident in the intricate models of fighter planes that he built. John's passion for creating and constructing led him to build clocks, cabinets and other fine pieces of woodwork. His zeal for traveling led him on many cruises and open road trips. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Billie Jeanne Warnock-Sanders, 3 children; Sherry Sanders, James A. Elizabeth Sanders and Pamela Richard Hatch, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his 2 sisters, Martha Leo Villemaire and Mildred Widener, and brother Charles W. Sanders. He is also survived by his brother-in-law S. Howard Sunday Warnock, sister-in-law Florence A. Dougherty whose husband John predeceased her. John was pre-deceased by his brothers Miles and Wilson A. Sanders and sister Jane E. Hart.
