Marie Stimpfl Obituary

Marie Stimpfl, 75, of Ardsley died Wednesday August, 18, 2010 after a long illness. She was born to S. James and Frances Targia in Glendale, Queens. Marie graduated from The College of Mt. St. Vincent and St. John's University with degrees in chemistry and organic chemistry. She married Robert Stimpfl on April 11, 1964. After living in Yonkers, they moved to Ardsley in October 1968. Her interest in sports led her to coach CYO basketball and for many years she managed a team in Ardsley's girl's softball league. She also served the Village of Ardsley from 1976-1988 as a Trustee for six years and as mayor for six years. The only woman ever elected to that office. She continued to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals until her death. Her dedicated service to Ardsley was demonstrated by her over 25 years as a member of the Ardsley/Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Marie is survived by her husband Robert, son James, daughter Marianne and her husband Christopher Heekin, her mother and 5 grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her brother John Targia. Mass of the Resurrection Saturday 10:00 A.M. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 535 Ashford Ave., Ardsley. Visiting Thursday 7-9 P.M. & Friday 2-4 & 7-9P.M. Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home.
