Philip S. Gentile Obituary

Dr. Philip S. Gentile died on Dec. 19, 2009, he was 86. Born on Feb. 27, 1923, in NYC to Francesco and Josephine nee Dattore. He earned his Bachelor of Science from CCNY; a Masters from Brooklyn Polytech; and his Ph.D. at the University of Texas in Austin. Philip worked in industry during WWII in the atomic energy field, before joining Fordham University's Chemistry Department. He retired in 1993 after 36 years. Philip did research in the field of inorganic chemistry and attended many international conferences; giving talks on his research. The American Chemical Society invited him to lecture at various universities in the U.S. He was also an adjunct professor at Nassau Community College and Lehman College. He is survived by his loving wife Mona, son James and wife Patricia; son Scott. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughters, Jennifer, Sarah and Lauren Phillips. Also surviving are his sisters, Maria Colletti, Gloria Gentile; 6 nephews and 1 niece. He is pre-deceased by his sister Viola Trentalange. Visiting will be Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A prayer service will take place during the visiting hours.
