Barbara N. Pearce

Barbara N. Pearce, a life long Dobbs Ferry resident passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Dobbs Ferry Pavilion-St. John's Riverside Hospital. She was born in Yonkers to Robert and Violet Thomas Pearce. She graduated from the Dobbs Ferry Public Schools and SUNY New Palz. She received a Masters in education from New York University. From 1945 to 1989 she taught third and fourth grade for the Dobbs Ferry School District. Barbara was a founding member of the Dobbs Ferry Volunteer Ambulance Corps and served many years as a member of the Board of Directors at the Dobbs Ferry Hospital. In 1968 the Kiwanis Club of Dobbs Ferry named her "Citizen of the Year." She was a member of the Dobbs Ferry Historical Society and volunteered at the Dobbs Ferry Library as well at the thrift shop at Zion Episcopal Church. She was a life-long member of girl scouting and served on the Executive Board of the Sunnyside Council. She enjoyed volunteering her time giving training workshops to Dobbs Ferry Girl Scout Leaders. Barbara enjoyed spending her summers on Cape Cod with family and friends. She is survived by her brother Gordon and his wife Gloria of Chatham, Massachusetts, her niece Beth Bailey and her husband Richard of Virginia and her three nephews, Peter and his wife Mary of Connecticut, Mark and his wife Katrina of Maine, John and his wife Liz of Virginia. She is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral Service 10 AM Friday October 30 Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home Visiting Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Funeral Home. Burial to follow Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Contributions may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, 55 Cedar Street, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522;the Dobbs Ferry Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 88 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522 or to the Dobbs Ferry Pavilion-St John's Riverside Hospital , 128 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.
