Elizabeth K. Betty Martin a longtime Ardsley Resident died Thursday after a long battle with dementia. She was 87. Born in Greenville S.C. on August 7, 1929 to Irma Thackston and Heyward Kinard. She Graduated from Hastings High School and attended Furman University in S.C. Betty worked as a secretary for various companies and later as an office manager for Ocean Atmospheric Science in Dobbs Ferry. After retirement she volunteered in the records department at Dobbs Ferry Hospital. Betty was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. There she sang in the choir, served on many committees and the church board. She had a wonderful voice, loved to sing and take care of her family. Betty was predeceased by her Husband John and daughter Barbara Grant. Surviving is her Son Robert of Ardsley, one sister Patricia De Astis, five grandchildren Corey, Jessica, Sara, Samantha, and Robert, five Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service Monday 11:00am Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 600 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry. Visiting Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.
