Mary Barbara Lichtenberg

Mary Barbara Lichtenberg died on February 2, 2017, her son's 65th birthday. She was born August 11, 1922, at the old Dobbs Ferry Hospital to the late Ursula Peciura and Casimir Butville, Lithuanian immigrants, born and raised in Lithuania, who sailed to America to settle in Hastings-on-Hudson. Mary married Floyd H. Lichtenberg on May 30, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia in the chapel at Fort McPherson. They had one son; Frederick T. Lichtenberg. Mr. Floyd Lichtenberg died on April 9, 2004. Mrs. Lichtenberg graduated in June of 1940 from Hastings High School, and first worked as an operator for the New York Telephone Company in Yonkers. Then, after raising a family and performing civic functions, she graduated from Mercy College, the Dobbs Ferry Campus, in 1996, with an Associate Degree in the Arts, through the college's A.W.A.R.E. program Adults Who Are Returning to Education. Then reentering the work force as a mature woman, working for CIBA- Geigy Corp. in Ardsley. She also spent two years at Fordham's School of Religion. She taught religion at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ardsley and Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington for a total of 25 years. She was a past president and charter member of the Ardsley Historical Society; where she also served as the society's newsletter editor and as the society's archives manager. She was actively involved in her church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and was a member and past president of the League of the Sacred Heart; member of the Catholic Family Mission; the Altar-Rosary Society; the annual Christmas fairs and bazaars; and the annual cabaret shows held in the OLPH school auditorium. She is survived by her beloved son, Frederick Lichtenberg, of Hartsdale, two sisters-in-law; along with many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
