Olga Meyer

Olga Russak Meyer, 98, passed away at home on August 20 2016. Born on January 22, 1918, she was one of five children of the late Gregorio and Mary Susko Russak. Olga was a lifelong resident of Hastings-on-Hudson. Mrs. Meyer graduated from Hastings High School in 1935, and later worked for the Anaconda Wire and Cable Company. On July 5, 1941, she married her hometown sweetheart, James Meyer, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Briefly stationed in California with the Navy during World War II, the couple returned to New York and soon settled into their own home in Hastings. James Meyer retired from General Motors Tarrytown in 1971; he passed away Sept 14, 1996. Mrs. Meyer retired after a full career as a truant officer and census taker for the Hastings School District. A longtime member of the Busy Bees senior group in Hastings, Olga is remembered by many as a tireless volunteer, a lovely and caring woman who always was upbeat and very generous with her time. Family members will remember a fun-loving sister, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a thoughtful and engaged matriarch. Predeceased by her husband, her younger son Gregory C. Meyer 2015 and siblings Nellie Russak Ikwild, Alexander Russak, and Tony Russak, Mrs. Meyer is survived by her brother Mike Russak of Vero Beach, FL, sister-in-law Pat Mrs. Tony Russak of Beverly Hills, FL and her older son Richard J. Meyer, his wife Gen&egraveve, and their children Marsinah, James, and Stephen all of Carlsbad, CA. Other survivors include many cherished nieces and nephews, the beloved children of Jimmy and Olga's siblings. In keeping with Mrs. Meyer's wishes, for herself and for her son Greg, a quiet graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery for the interment of ashes. The Meyer family has been grateful many times for the kindness and professionalism of the Hastings Police Department and its Volunteer Ambulance Corps. In lieu of flowers, contributions and kind words for these wonderful people would be greatly appreciated.
