Sheldon Sherman Stelzer

Sheldon Stelzer died March 6, 2005. He was born March 18, 1922 in Yonkers, son of Manuel and Rose Stelzer. Sheldon grew up in Yonkers and served in the US Army during both WWII and the Korean War. He served on General Eisenhower's staff and aided in drawing up the plans for the D-Day Invasion. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.A. in Art and Columbia University with his Masters in Art. In 1948 he began teaching at the Dobbs Ferry Schools, as their only art teacher. He later taught art at the Port Chester Jr. High School, retiring after 25 years. He formerly owned a wallpaper and paint store in Ardsley, and currently operated a custom framing business out of his home, with many customers, extending from Manhattan to Connecticut. Sheldon is survived by his wife Mae Marcus Stelzer of Dobbs Ferry, a son and daughter-in-law Manning and Lenore Stelzer of Branford, CT a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Robert Sommer of Valhalla, one granddaughter, Shari Rose Stelzer and a brother Irwin Stelzer of Nanuet. Funeral 10:30 am Wednesday, Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. Memorials to the American Heart Association.
