Joseph A. Barrella Obituary

Together in life and now in death, Joseph Joe and Anastasia Nancy Barrella died at the age of 88 peacefully in their home surrounded by their loving family. Joe died Friday Feb. 25th and, as always, he didn't go anywhere without his wife, who passed the very next day on Saturday, Feb. 26th. Joe was born November 12, 1916 in Mt. Vernon, NY, son of Nicholas and Julia Borrelli Barrella. Born June 6, 1916 in Shamokin, PA, Nancy was the daughter of Peter and Mary Lorchak Kopyscianski. They were married May 2, 1942. Joe was a WW2 Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. He worked as General Foreman at Otis Elevator in Yonkers. He was a founder of the Hillcrest Lakers Boy's Club in Yonkers and a Past Commander of the John Dunbar Post, American Legion in Yonkers. He was active in church and community affairs and was ever supportive of his wife. Nancy was a strong woman and a devoted, supportive wife and loving mother. She took great pleasure and pride in caring for her family and cooking sumptuous meals for everyone. Anyone who knew Joe and Nancy knows what a wonderful life and marriage they shared and how much joy they brought to the lives of the people they cared for and loved. Together, they are survived by their loving children, Joseph Barrella of Corning, NY, Gail Fatato and Russell Barrella, both of Yonkers, 7 adoring grandchildren, Renee, Dianna, Anthony, Ryan, Joseph, Russell and Jennie-rose, 2 cherished great-grandchildren, Sydney and Kilian. Joe is also survived by his brother, Anthony of New Rochelle. Nancy is also survived by her brothers, Nicholas Lance Kopy of Fla., Russell Kopy of Mamaroneck and a sister Jean DeFonce of Harrison, NY. Her brother Paul and sister Helen preceded her in death. Additionally both are survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout Westchester County and Florida. Mass of the Resurrection is at 10:00 am Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Scarsdale. Visiting will take place Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home.
