Janice Flueckinger Obituary

Janice Marie Roth was born August 5, 1940, to Levi and Edna Roth in Gordon, Nebraska and was released from her earthly body to be with her Heavenly Father on July 23, 2022.  She had two older brothers, Marvin and Richard.  Janice and her family lived on a farm south of Batesland, SD and she attended Demmer Rural School three miles from home, often riding her pony, Pug.  After 7th grade, the family moved to Gordon, and she finished school there.  After graduation from GHS, she worked in the office of Dodd-DeBolt Equipment.  She then moved to Lincoln, NE with a friend where they both worked as secretaries at the National Bank of Commerce.  After a year they moved back home and she was employed as the office manager at Gordon Memorial Hospital.

It turned out to be a good decision to move home because she met Clayton Flueckinger at a dance in Rushville and they were married at the Methodist church in Gordon on February 25, 1962.  Together they farmed and ranched southwest of Gordon on the farm of Clayton’s parents.  They later purchased the farm and lived there until 2011.  When the kids got older, she worked in town at the Abbott Bank, Glen Shanks tax office and finally The First National Bank.  She retired in 2002.  As retirees, she and Clayton purchased a 5th-wheel and traveled with Laborers for Christ, building churches in New Mexico, Iowa and Washington state.  They spoke with laughter and joy about the many great friends they made during this time.

The family would like to acknowledge Mom’s battle with Trigemenial Nueuralgia.  This rare and horrible disease ravaged mom physically and emotionally for 33 years.  It was especially hard for family to see her suffer and slowly disappear physically and emotionally from life.

Please remember Janice enjoying crocheting baby afghans for grandchildren and great nieces and nephews, embroidering, playing cards, and being active in her church, Grace Lutheran.  At Christmas time, remember the plates of candies and cookies she loved to make and give to friends and family.  And of course, those who knew and loved her will think of her when they see Charlie Brown!

Janice is survived by her four children, Jody (Zane) of Duvall WA, Linda (Kurt) of Bellingham WA, Mary (Patrick) of Rapid City, SD and Gary in Gordon; Eight grandchildren: Erin Nelson (Ryan), Jordan, Tessa, Rose Anderson (Billy), Matthew (Valida), Jacob, Anna and Kirby; Brother Richard Roth and sister-in-law Wanda, sister-in-law Marlys Roth, all of Gordon; Sister-in-law Doris White of New Jersey and brother-in-law Eugene Flueckinger and wife Sharon of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Services will be held at a date yet to be determined.

Family suggests memorials to Facial Pain Association of Suwanee, GA, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or Grace Lutheran Church, Gordon NE.
