Betty Lou Mills Obituary

Betty Lou (Boutilier) Mills
June 27, 1938 – July 17, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Betty Lou Mills, shortly after her 84th birthday at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, where she was able to spend time with her older Sister Dorothy. The youngest daughter of Dean and Lily (nee Field)Boutilier of Stellarton. Betty Lou passed peacefully in her sleep and is survived by her older siblings Ina Thompson (94), Dorothy Hoare (90) and Lester Boutilier (87).
Her greatest accomplishment was her family. Betty Lou had 4 children, Vernon Mills, Kevin Mills (Michelle), Storm Lesperance and Randy MacLean. Grandchildren, Marsha, Joseph, Jennifer, Heather, Veronica, Kate, Jade, Ashley, Cassandra and Daniel. She had 21 Great Grandchildren, Alyssa, Brittany, Jeremy, Trevor, Nathan, Brady, Kallie, Sophie, Emma, Kristen, Bryson, Kaden, Kallan, Liam, Brantley, Sonya, Ashlyn, Nina, Sierra, Aspen and Abbey and astonishingly Great-Great Grandchildren, Zoey, Adaya, Myla, Bentley, Easton, Remi, Emmett and Makoa.
she worked as a bartender and waitress at Hamilton’s and the Sea Hawke. She was the first woman Lobster Fisherwoman in Nova Scotia, with then husband Edward Mills. She led an active life and took pride in supporting the NDP, Lady Princess May #53 Lodge, playing cards with her family and winning card tournaments. She also enjoyed playing bingo, the slots and fun family sing-alongs. Betty Lou worked for 20 years at Michelin Tires Canada Granton Plant and was instrumental in the 3 attempts to Unionize the company, which all failed as the Michelin Bill was introduced and passed. Search YOU TUBE, “The Michelin Bill – The Workers Story”. She retired after 20 years.
A special thanks to Glen Haven staff, niece Cathy Hay and partner Kim Goodfellow and cousins Sharon and Vera Walton.
A graveside committal service for family and friends will be held 3pm Monday August 8, 2022 at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Kingsbury presiding. angusfuneralhomes.com
