Susan Langston Coplea

Susan Langston Coplea, 72, of Springfield, died at 10:17 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Villa East in Sherman. Susan was born on September 19, 1949, in Springfield, the daughter of Thomas Harold and Frances Moore Langston. She married Leo Melvin Coplea on September 3, 1977, at First Presbyterian Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death. Susan was a graduate of Springfield High School, Robert Morris College- Carthage, IL, and received her M.A. degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield. She was the Executive Director of the Rutledge Youth Foundation for several years. She was also affiliated with Professional Counseling Services as a private therapist. Susan was a member of several professional organizations during her working career and was a current member of the 1st Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her many dogs over the years. Susan and her husband, Leo, enjoyed travelling and spent the best time with family and friends at their lake house. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, David (wife, Helen) Langston of Springfield; one niece, Margaret (husband, John) Colbert; and two great-nephews, Jacob and Max Colbert. Susan is also survived by many members of the Coplea family. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Tim Haworth officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the 1st Presbyterian Church, 321 South 7th St., Springfield, IL 62701 or the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
