Homer L. "Leroy" Vandevender

Mr. Homer L. “Leroy” Vandevender, age 92 of Hutsonville, IL, died Saturday July 23, 2022, at 2:25 PM at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, following several months of failing health. Leroy was born in Cayuga, IN on August 7, 1929, to John and Lillian (Pribble) Vandevender. On July 12, 1952, he married Elizabeth C. (Neild) and she survives. Leroy proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Upon completion of his enlistment, he became an Operator with Local #841, IUOE, Terre Haute, IN. His passion as an operator was operating a CASE backhoe or a large Track hoe. Leroy’s favorite pastime was buying and selling used machinery and collecting International Harvester Tractors. Both Leroy and Elizabeth were members of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Annapolis, IL. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth C. “Libby” Vandevender, Hutsonville, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Betty Vandevender, Hutsonville, IL; daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn K. and Gary Smith, St. Francisville, IL, Mrs. Connie and Laddie Storckman, Hutsonville, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chad) Cosat, Amy Teska, Jonathan (Emily) Vandevender, Ryan (Sara) Storckman, Victoria Dunavan, Ashley (Nicholaus) Benson, Laci (Joshua) Thornton, Haley (Jared) Hoke, Sarah (Sean) Nettleton, Calvin (Ashley) Smith, Kayla Pollard, Kristina Pollard and Chianne Pollard; twenty six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Vandevender, Dana, IN, a sister, Kathleen Hawn, Dana, IN along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding Leroy in death were his parents; a daughter, Dianne E. Pollard, 2005; a son-in-law, Rick Pollard, 2016; a great granddaughter, Amara A. Marie Pollard; brothers, Lester and Floyd Vandevender and sisters, Irene Dixon and Margaret and Esther Vandevender. The Funeral Service will be Thursday July 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, IL with Pastor David Hyde officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Hutsonville. Interment will follow funeral services in the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL. The family suggests memorials to the VFW Transportation Fund c/o VFW Post #4549, 712 E. Main Street, Robinson, IL 62454. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Military Funeral Honors at the graveside will be accorded by the combined units of E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, VFW Post #4549 both of Robinson, IL and AMVETS Post #33 of Palestine, IL and Reavill Post #132, American Legion, Flat Rock, IL.
