Mary Ellen Ellis, 71, of Ceresco, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Heritage Assisted Living. She was born on June 30, 1951, the daughter of Donald and Virginia (Evans) Furu.<br><br> Mary grew up being in 4-H and remained involved in 4-H as an adult. She enjoyed being a "Horse Show Mom", relaxing on the beach, kayaking and taking trips to Florida during Spring Break. She loved taking care of her dog, Johnnie and enjoyed her State of Michigan retiree lunches where she got to socialize with all of her past coworkers. Most of all, she loved doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren and going to Binder Park Zoo. She loved being a grandmother. Mary attended Harper Creek Public Schools and after graduation she attended Michigan State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree.<br><br> Mary is survived by her daughters, Colleen (David) Hunter, Shannon (Jason Prince) Ellis; grandchildren, Drew Hunter, Ryleigh Hunter, Opal Prince, Clover Prince; sisters, JoAnne (Mark ) Furu-VandenHeede, Vicki (Beau) Furu-Jencks, Kathy (James) Carpenter; niece, Amy Baker; nephew, Jesse Baker; best friend, Cathy Conley and her adopted families, the Converse's and Merchant's. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elaine Furu-Baker.<br><br> A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary will be held at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service on Saturday, July 30, 2022 starting at 1:00 pm.<br><br> Arrangements by the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service. 269-788-9800. www.baxterfuneral.com
