Betty Pettus Obituary

A life well-loved and well-lived was a true testament to Betty L. Pettus. Betty’s life journey began in Carlisle, AR, on January 28,1956, born to the late John Wesley and Mayola Lewis. She finished her servant’s journey on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. It all started in Carlisle, AR where she was baptized and graduated from Carlisle high school with honors. For the past 35 years, she’s been a dedicated member of Agape Church where she faithfully served on the medical team, in the Children’s ministry, and as a member of their sewing group. She had great passion for serving in the Widows Mite ministry, which focused on giving back through life-changing experiences. She graduated from University of Arkansas at Little Rock with an Associate’s of Science in Nursing (ASN), and most recently graduated from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, proudly receiving a Marketing degree. Her zest for knowledge was truly inspiring as she was still getting degrees in her 60’s. She was also passionate about being a life-long learner, attending several colleges and receiving numerous degrees and certifications, from nursing to fashion design, theology, marketing with social media studies, and had several various insurance licenses and certifications. Betty would go on to practice nursing with immense passion for the next 45 years at many medical facilities including John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans' Hospital, and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Betty often spoke about how much she loved nursing and the commitment and passion she had for saving lives. She went into every “Code Blue” with fierce determination to help save the patient’s life. Betty was always ready for the next trip and loved taking cruises. She traveled the world with her husband, Fred, family members and friends. She enjoyed all that it had to offer including trips to Hawaii, Mexico, US Virgin Islands, Europe, Honduras, and more. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed reading, sewing (whether it was designing formal gowns, a face mask, pillowcase, or other creation), interior decorating and remodeling her home. She was also a die-hard sports fan, cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Mavericks, and many other teams. But her husband, Fred, would say her greatest joy of all was her two beautiful daughters, Miranda (Randi) and Ashley. They were a best friend combination who experienced so much together, and Betty loved every minute of it, whether it was sharing great words of wisdom, giving beauty and makeup advice, experiencing the joys and pains of life, nurturing, being a mentor and encourager, a road trip partner, or a shopping buddy. She taught them how to be bold, especially about Christ. Betty always told them, “Just stand…if you've done everything you can do, just stand.” Anyone who knew them was well aware that the trio took Black Friday shopping seriously – seriously. They had a strategy in place and showed no mercy to anyone who got in their way of executing on their shopping checklist. Betty was also her daughters’ biggest cheerleader. As Ashley began her Esthetician journey, it was her mom who went to every trade show, bought every product Ashley was selling (even if she didn’t need it), allowed Ashley to practice countless hours on her face for treatments, eyelash extensions and you name it. If it would help Ashley be the best Esthetician, Betty was there to support. For Randi, it was the countless trips to Kansas in the winter, even though Betty strongly disliked cold weather. She would brave it all to be with her. Betty took every role in life she played with great passion, being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, Aunt, cousin, friend, mentor, and career professional. Fred described her as an “excellent” wife who was giving and selfless, always ready to give her last to others. She took great pride in being married 40+ years and was all about taking chances and being adventurous. She loved her siblings only wanting the best for all of them for their physical, mental, spiritual well-being. She loved her nieces and nephews and wouldn’t hesitate to go hear her nephew, Damarcus, perform at one of his rap sets. She even went as far as learning the lyrics so that he knew she supported his creative music passion. To others who had the pleasure of knowing her, they described Betty as a skilled nurse, a mentor, a funny person, and just all-around great individual. Betty leaves behind her husband of 43 years Frederick “Fred” Pettus, her daughters, Miranda Pettus and Ashley Pettus, her siblings; Johnnie Mae Johnson (Clarence), Bobby Jo Lewis (Judy), Linda Lewis, Willis Holloman (Helen), Robert Lewis (Ruth), and Lillie Mae Fairchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, John Wesley and Mayola Lewis, sister, Leona Pierro. Family hour Sunday, July 24, 2022 4-6pm at Premier Funeral Home. Funeral Service Monday, July 25, 2022 11:00am at Agape Church 701 Napa Valley Dr. Little Rock, AR 72211. Services entrusted to Premier Funeral Home 1518 S. Battery St. Little Rock, AR 72202.
