Obituary

DENNIS ALLARD

1946-2022

On July 16, 2022, at Riverview Health Center, Dennis Charles Allard passed away peacefully at the age of 76. He was born on April 10, 1946 to Laurent and Laurette Allard of Lido Plage Road. Dennis is predeceased by his father Laurent Allard (1995) and his mother Laurette Allard (2019). Dennis is lovingly remembered by his siblings Michelle†(2017) (Florent), Sylvie (Ralph), Luc (Diane), Jacques†(2005) (Cathy†(2019)), Marie Anne (Bill), Véronique (Brian) and Elisabeth (Ross). He will be greatly missed by his 22 nieces and nephews and 21 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Dennis’ childhood was spent living on a farm with a big family (eight children) in a small house. He was an excellent worker, and he would help his family by tending to animals and doing other farm chores. This happy, simple upbringing resulted in Dennis developing his very strong work ethic, as well as his friendly, easy-going ways. He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball with his siblings and the neighbourhood kids, often using make-shift equipment but always having a great time.

As a young man, Dennis applied himself equally to various jobs from dishwasher to dog groomer to horse hand. However, his natural talent lay in working with animals. His love of animals, especially wolves, was evident in his choice of home décor to personal wardrobe.

As Dennis grew older, he stayed at the Manor in St. Eustache, as well as supportive housing in both Portage la Prairie and Windsor Park in Winnipeg. However, no matter where he resided, he was content to be living near his family – most notably his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

In his later years, Dennis’ past times included reading, watching the Jets on TV and keeping his family updated with regular phone calls to announce the results of the hockey games and what he ate for dinner. His trademark enthusiastic “Hello! How are you doing?” will not be soon forgotten.

Dennis will forever be remembered as someone who was truly content with the simplicity of living among his family and friends. “Be as simple as you can be; you will be astonished to see how uncomplicated and happy your life can become.” - Paramahansa Yogonanda
