Dorothy M. Brooks was a caring mother and grandmother. She peacefully departed
this life in her family's presence on July 10, 2022.
Dorothy was affectionately known as Bits, Miss Bitsi, Mom, and Mom-Mom. She
was born on March 7 , 1940 , in Morton, PA to the late Theodore and Evelyn
Johnson.
Dorothy was educated in the Chester School District. She was a good tennis player
and belonged to an area tennis club with her family that played in local tennis
matches.
As a member of Temple Baptist Church in Chester, she served on the Usher Board
and was a member of the Missionaries Society No. 2. She worked as a Funeral
Attendant for many years at the Catherine Laws Funeral Home. Dorothy also
worked for Community Transit as an aide.
It was common for family and friends to ride or walk by her long-time home on 9th
street with a beep and a wave while she was on the porch. Her favorite TV shows
were westerns, Chicago PD, Heat of the Night, and Blue Bloods. But, more often
than not, you would see her with one of her "grands". By far, her favorite pastime
was being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which included
everything from sneaking them candy and taking trips to Wildwood.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy
Brooks, sons Ronald Collins, Jr., William Collins and Kelly Brooks, sister Alyce
Johnson, and brothers William and Melvin Johnson.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Kim Thompson (Tony) of
Chester, Dawn Briggs (Donald) of Newark, Delaware, Crystal Collins of Bryn Mawr,
PA; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews,
nieces, cousins, and friends.
