Andrew (Andy) Richard Ellenberger Obituary

Andrew (Andy) Richard Ellenberger, 82, passed away on July 12, 2022, at Maple Ridge Memory Care in Essex, Vermont. He was born on April 21, 1940, and raised in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1962 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and received his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont in 1973. His career at IBM spanned from 1962 to retirement in 1999 and involved semiconductor design and development. An accomplished piano player and traditional jazz enthusiast, music played a major role throughout his life. Andy has been heard by many all over the state of Vermont and beyond on either the piano or tuba in numerous traditional jazz bands, including the Onion River Jazz Band (of which he was a founding member), The Dixie Six, and the Penn Can Jazz Band. When he wasn’t entertaining others with his music, he could often be found enjoying the family camp and his boat on Lake Champlain.

Andy is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and daughters, Cynthia, and Carolyn, all of Essex, Vermont, and by his sister, Anne Hayashi, and her husband, Masa Hayashi, of San Jose, California. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard, and Doris Ellenberger.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation and thanks to Andy’s many caregivers over the years, including the staff at UVM Endocrinology, UVM Medical Center, Advanced Dentistry, and most recently, Maple Ridge Memory Care and Bayada Hospice.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
