Lloyd J. Pollonais Obituary

Lloyd Joseph Pollonais, age 92 was born on January 14,1930 in Trinidad and Tobago. He migrated to the United States, first settling in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he resided for 22 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Elizabeth, relocated to Orlando, Florida where they resided for another 18 years. They returned to Minnesota in early 2022. He passed away on July 8,2022.
Our dad was a great trooper. Although being partially blind for the most part of his life, he never let his disability hamper his way of life. He grew up helping his mother with his younger brothers and sisters after his own father passed away.
He was a Customs Officer with Trinidad Distributors Limited in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago for many years before migrating to Minnesota. He then went back to school to learn braille and received a business owner certification and became the sole proprietor of a candy store "Polli's Candy" for greater than 10 years at the Government Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As a true "Trini," he enjoyed Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival, known as the Greatest "Show on Earth,' immensely. He was an avid masquerader portraying individual Roman Soldier characters for the legendary band leader Ken Morris, who is recognized as one of the premier sculptors in the country. He loved to chat and was very conversant on many different topics especially music, steelpan and Trinidad and Tobago's history. In his later years, he became very versed in all the bible readings becoming a Deacon for a Pentecostal church both in Minnesota and Florida.
Preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Adriana. Survived by his wife of 66 years Elizabeth (Betty); last of all siblings (Adolph, Jeffrey, Gaston, Yvonne, Lynette and Garth); children- Glen, Seaton, Anita, Kathleen, Susan, Laura and Lance; grandfather of Lisa, Suzette, Christopher, Brian, Jolanta and Frankie; great grandfather to Alexis, Makayla, Kervon, Garfield, Issiah and Abby, with many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives and friends.
