Mr. Santiago Rodriguez, 80, entered into Heaven's gates on July 11, 2022, having been faithfully surrounded by his family. Santiago was born on February 13, 1942 in San Ygancio, Texas. He joined the US Army during the Vietnam conflict and courageously served his country. After his return to Laredo, he married the love of his life, Maria Loreto Ramos de Rodriguez. He leaves behind many cherished memories that will not be soon forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his mother Rosa Rodriguez; his adoptive parents Rafael and Ramoncita Gutierrez; siblings: Maria Guadalupe (Pedro) Muñoz, Maria Delgado, and Juan Gutierrez.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife and the love of his life, that just recently celebrated 52 years of holy matrimony, Mrs. Maria Loreto Ramos de Rodriguez; children: Santiago (Patricia) Rodriguez Jr., Rosa Maria (Leandro Sr.) Borrego, Gerardo (Jacqueline) Rodriguez Sr., Juan (Sylvia) Rodriguez; grandchildren: Bertha L. Rodriguez, Amber N. Rodriguez, Abigail Rodriguez, Leandro Borrego Jr., Esequiel Borrego, Audrey K. Borrego, Gerardo Rodriguez Jr., Lucia (Gilbert) Bautista, Gabriel Rodriguez, Karla M. Rodriguez, Sara L. Rodriguez, Isabella E. Rodriguez; great-grandchildren: Kiana Victoria Borrego, Josiah Jerah Salazar, Katalina R. Rodriguez, Andy Treviño, Gerardo Rodriguez III, Jayden Rodriguez, Aaron Bautista, Aaliyah Bautista, and Leilani G. Rodriguez; siblings: Rafael C. (Mary) Gutierrez, Jesus (Patricia) Gutierrez, Raul (Aurora) Gutierrez, and Dolores Gutierrez; brothers and sisters in law: Nazario Ramos, Pedro Ramos, Margarita Yepez, and Juanita Lopez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive guests on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Gamez and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services; with a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral procession will depart the chapel at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Veteran's Section of the Laredo City Cemetery.


Honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 59 and the Fort Sam Houston Funeral Honors Detail.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Santiago Rodriguez Jr., Juan Rodriguez, Leandro Borrego Jr., Esequiel Borrego, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Nazario Ramos.
