MacQuarrie, Jennie “Madeline” (Maddy) – Lorne, NS
It is with broken hearts the family of Madeline MacQuarrie, age 91 of Lorne, Pictou County announces her passing on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at her home in Lorne surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Gairloch she was the daughter of the late Billy and Jennie (Gordon) Murray.
Madeline is survived by her son’s John (Frances), Jim (Joanne) and daughter and best friend Linda.
Madeline is also survived by her loving sister Wilma Cameron, brother-in-law Byrchill MacQuarrie (Marie) sisters- in-law Lorna Graham and Elaine MacQuarrie.
Madeline was predeceased by her loving husband John Alex; son Murray and her sisters and their husbands; Florence (Percy) Oliver, Annie (Bob) Sample, brother-in-law James Cameron and a brother and sister in infancy.
Madeline was the loving devoted grandmother to Jenny (Trevor), Brad (Ashley), Alex (Allie), Kristy (Evan) and great-grandmother to Mack, Baron, Hayden, Freya and a new arrival coming in November. As well as, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and their extended families and a good true friend to whom all she knew. Madeline will be dearly missed by her four-legged spoiled boy Jaggar, who she adored and loved, as he never left her side.
Madeline had a strong faith and was a member and attended First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell and kept a strong interest in her home church in Gairloch.
Madeline was a loving devoted lady and family meant the world to her. Although, she faced many challenges she never lost her determination to keep moving forward.
Madeline made many lasting friends through her church family and events, volunteering and collecting for numerous charities over the years, baby sitting little ones in her home and her dedication at the Old Time Dances by the Bible Hill Swingster’s which she held close to her heart. Madeline was well known for many skills she enjoyed, farming, gardening, drives and her specialty of her delicious baking and cooking.
Madeline often spoke of her childhood and years of growing up in Gairloch which was a source of fond memories and recollections for which she was happy to share with anyone who asked or would listen. She would recall with wit and accuracy until the very end.
Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Thursday, July 14 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 15 in First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell with Rev. Bonnie Langille and Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lorne Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Lorne Community Hall.
The family have requested that everyone in attendance for the visitation and or the funeral service to please wear a mask.

Our sincere thanks to the following; Our Nurse Practioner, Marla MacDonald and staff at Westville Medical Clinic. Also the Palliative Care Team, Dr. Rob Horton, Dr. Anne Kwasnick, Rachel MacDonald, Joan Timmons, VON/LPN’s, Jack Davies and wonderful staff at Poulain’s Pharmacy for the excellent care and support Mom received so that Mom was able to remain in her happiest spot - her home. Along with the love and support of all our relatives, friends, neighbors and all who supported with love and Kindness – “Our Sincerest Thanks”
