<p><strong>James Edward Benkert, age 89, of Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Piqua Manor.&nbsp; He was born in Piqua on December 24, 1932, to the late Louis Pete and Carmen (Helman) Benkert.</strong></p> <p><strong>James is survived by two children: Barbara (Mark) Furdero of Piqua and John (Sue) Benkert of Ft. Myers, FL; two siblings: Donald Benkert and Martha Yount; three grandchildren: Andrew Benkert, Traci Miller and Matt Drapp; and two great grandchildren: Frankie Drapp and Georgia Drapp.</strong></p> <p><strong>James was a graduate of Piqua High School.&nbsp; He proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force.&nbsp; James retired after 30 years from Val Decker Meat Packing in Piqua.&nbsp; He also retired from Sidney City Schools and was employed at Walmart.&nbsp; James was of the catholic faith.&nbsp; He collected coins for years, loved reading books about airplanes and was a member of the Piqua Antique Automobile Club.&nbsp; Above all else, James loved his family.</strong></p> <p><strong>Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 11, 2022, at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, OH with Pastor Chad Wilson officiating.&nbsp; Full military honors will be provided by Shelby County Veterans and US Air Force.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Memorial contributions may be made to Shelby County Veterans, 133 South Ohio Street, Sidney, OH 45363 in James&rsquo; memory.&nbsp; Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.theadamsfuneralhome.com.</strong></p>

James Edward Benkert, age 89, of Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Piqua Manor.  He was born in Piqua on December 24, 1932, to the late Louis Pete and Carmen (Helman) Benkert.
