Richard (Rick) Allen Kishka Obituary

Richard (Rick) Allen Kishka

Richard (Rick) Allen Kishka of Komarno, MB passed away peacefully at the Selkirk Regional Health Center on July 4, 2022 at the age of 61.

Rick is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Ann, son Steven (Rebecca), granddaughter Olivia, brother David (Stephanie) and their children Vanessa (Travis), Bridget and Brittney as well as numerous other family members. Rick was predeceased by his parents Peter and Anne Kishka and grandparents John and Pauline Rogodzinski and Michael and Rose Kishka.

Born July 21, 1960, Rick was raised on the family farm near Komarno and graduated from high school in Teulon. Before starting to farm with his parents and brother, Rick spent one year at Red River College getting a certificate in mechanics.

From an early age, Rick was interested in all things mechanical and spent many hours building homemade go-carts. Combined with his formal training, there was never a machine Rick couldn’t fix on the farm.  These skills were invaluable to Rick when he worked for the Manitoba Government for the Highways Department in Teulon and Gimli. Rick retired in 2021 after 22 years with the department.

Rick met the love of his life Ann in 1984 and married in 1987. Over the years Rick and Ann enjoyed many holiday adventures on their own and with family. With the help of family members Rick built the house that became their family’s home.

In 1990 Rick and Ann’s son Steven was born. A proud father, Rick was involved in every aspect of Steven’s life to ensure he had every opportunity to learn and grow. This quality time led to many enjoyable evenings and weekends volunteering with Ann at the local Scout troop and church youth group. Rick also spent many hours supporting organizations that were important to his family, particularly Evergreen Basic Needs in Gimli and the Fraserwood Hall Committee.

A farmer his entire life, Rick helped manage the family farm from an early age due to his father’s untimely death. Rick later established his own cattle farm with the help and support of Ann and Steven. Rick’s love of the land was passed onto Steven, who continues his family’s farming tradition today.

Family meant everything to Rick. His fun loving attitude and good humour brightened every family gathering and he laughed with his whole heart. Rick cherished his granddaughter Olivia and she adored her Gido. Sled rides in the winter and wagon rides in the summer were enjoyed equally by both of them.

In his spare time, Rick loved hunting. He spent many days every fall hunting waterfowl and big game with friends and family. Hunting during white-tailed deer season was essential, as he competed with Steven to get the biggest buck every year. Summer family fishing trips and ice fishing on Lake Winnipeg in the winter were important events every year.

Every moment with Rick was a true blessing to all those around him and he will be cherished and remembered by many.

Prayers will be said on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Gimli, MB.
