Robert Rex “Bob” Hodson, 84 formerly of Farmington, passed away suddenly in Des Moines, Iowa, Monday, July 4, 2022.  He was born on October 1, 1937, in Donnellson, Iowa the son of Lee and Ruth (Lang) Hodson. He grew up in Donnellson with his brothers Les, Jim, and sister Judy.  After graduating from Donnellson High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy (without telling his parents).  Bob was aboard the Naval carrier Shangri-la. At the end of his tour of Asia, while on shore leave, he went on a blind date with a young nurse named Nancy Hedgecock. They soon married and he convinced Nancy to move back to Iowa.  They spent 64 years together, and raised 3 children.  Bob is survived by his wife and children: Susan Hodson Milligan, Brett Hodson (Kathleen) and Linda Gourd (Joe).  Also surviving are grandchildren: Danielle, Tyler (Heather), Alyssa (Alex), Michael, Izabel and Hugh; greatchildren: Mikey, Ava, and TJ; nephews: Mike, Steve, Pat, & Niece, Kim. Bob loved to work and took pride in working very hard. He owned and operated Hodson Construction for many years. Bob loved the natural beauty of Southeast Iowa & loved the community of people that live there. He was often found outside working in the garden, cultivating flowers, feeding birds, fishing, camping, making maple syrup, or helping a neighbor. You would also find him as a regular having coffee at the local cafe, or gathering at “Bill’s barn” debating and discussing all of the important current events.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, Iowa. Following the visitation, a celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson, Iowa with a flag presentation by the Donnellson American Legion Gillaspey - Moodie Post #474. Memorials may be made in his memory to either Lee County Conservation via Three Rivers Conservation Foundation or Van Buren County Conservation.
