Obituary
David John Haudrich, aged 85, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
The younger son of William and Florence Haudrich, David was born on October 24, 1936 in Redbud, Illinois. After graduating as Valedictorian of Sacred Heart High School in Belleville, Illinois, he attended St. Louis University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. He spent his entire 37 year career in the St. Louis branch of the Army Corps of Engineers developing, maintaining and protecting the navigation capability along the Mississippi river.
At the age of 21, David married Joette Carter of Paris, Arkansas. While David was the studious type with a professorial air, Joette was a high-energy “firecracker,” proving that opposites truly do attract. He is preceeded in death by his wife Joette and leaves behind his two children – Lisa (Jay) McGinnity and John (Wendy) Haudrich; and five grandchildren: Kristian (26), Claire (24), Anna (21), Jordan (20) and Ryan (18).
David was a very learned man with a passion for science and history. With his love of avionics, he designed and built his own model aircraft and won several awards in competition. David was a lifelong “rock hound” with a great passion for geology that included numerous visits to the U.S. National Parks over the years. Building on his love of nature, he was an avid gardener. David was also a faithful parishioner of St. Richard’s Parish in St. Louis, Missouri where he served on the church board for many years and tutored disadvantaged children during his retirement years. Most importantly, David was a very kind man known for his practical and sage advice.
Later in life, David received the most devoted care from the loving staff at the Grove at Oakleaf Village as well as Ohio Living Hospice. For this, David’s family is eternally grateful.
A private Catholic mass is planned for Wednesday, June 29, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Michael J. Fox foundation (www.michaeljfox.org) to support research for Parkinson’s Disease.
