Melanie Dawn Carr Obituary

Melanie Dawn Carr, 56, of Spring Hill, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on May 30, 2022.  She was an amazing sister, daughter, and friend. She always had a smile no matter her own struggles. The world is a little darker without her.

Melanie was born in the mountains of western North Carolina, and was proud of her southern roots. She was  a fearless child, once trying to catch a copperhead snake in a Cool Whip container, and she grew into an intelligent and hard-working student who made the National Honor Society at Mitchell High School in Ledger, NC (Class of 1984). She loved country music (George Strait especially), and the film Planes, Trains and Automobiles.  Melanie also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She never met a stranger.

Her first job was at Beam’s Chinese American Restaurant in Spruce Pine, NC. She made many life-long friends from the work family there. Melanie was very industrious and perceptive. She entered into a new adventure and opened Jim’s Market, a local general store with a twist. She loved the sun, so soon had tanning beds installed. Her vision for the store, and her ingenuity, made Jim’s Market her local legacy, and it is still in business after thirty years.

Melanie moved on to a  part-time position with H&R Block, which she turned into a career that spanned 35 years. She moved with H&R Block from North Carolina to South Carolina, and eventually landed in Spring Hill, Tennessee. She loved her job and was very successful. She made friends and claimed family in each of these locations. Some of her clients not only followed her from county to county, but from state to state.

Those that knew Melanie know that she gave her all in everything she did. She worked hard at any job she had, but she worked even harder to provide an atmosphere where family and friends were always welcome. She liked having family close to her, so when she moved to Greenville, SC, she convinced her sister, her mama, and cousin to move there, too.

Melanie loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved people. She was the life of the party.  Melanie was a giver, and she gave with her whole heart.

Melanie was preceded in death by her brother Brian Keith Silver, grandparents Charlie and Ruth Wyatt Silver, aunt Mary Ann Herrell, and uncles Mark and David Silver.

Melanie is survived by her mother, Patricia Grindstaff of Greenville, SC, sisters Missy Burd (Jeff) of Gurnee, IL and April Grindstaff of Greenville, SC, her uncle Mike Silver of Oceanside, CA, cousin Jackie Fox (Shawn) of Myrtle Beach, SC, niece Kayleigh Bushyhead of Greenville, SC, and  nephews Nicodemus Bushyhead (Jereisha) of Johnson City, TN, and Brian Whitmire, of Greenville, SC.

The family is planning a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. SPRING HILL MEMORIAL PARK, FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES  5239 Main Street, Spring Hill, Tennessee 37174. 931-486-0059
