Gail Hartley

Gail Hartley, nee Eisenbrandt, age 66, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 after courageously battling cancer for the last six years. Gail was born on September 28, 1955 to Howard and Hattie Eisenbrandt. She grew up in their family home on Caton Farm Road and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1973. She worked as a legal secretary in Chicago and then as the office manager for Gassensemith & Michalesko, Ltd. until her retirement. Gail is survived by Phillippe Spung, her husband and love of her life, and step-son, Steven (Tiffany Clower) Spung; her sisters, Diane (Ed) Baker and Beryl (David) Johnson, and brother, Arlyn (Nola) Eisenbrandt. She was Aunt extraordinaire to her nephews, Ross and Brent Baker, Ethan Eisenbrandt, and her niece Emma (Eisenbrandt) Craven. She is also survived by a large supportive and close-knit in-law family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hattie Eisenbrandt, and her sister Sylvia (Miguel) Marton. Gail was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church and will be missed by member of her church family which are too numerous to name. Gail was known at church as the “Hat Lady”. She had a stylish hat each Sunday to match her outfit. She was always welcoming to new members and frequently the reason families joined. She was active in Confirmation, Jesus and Me, Tween Go, Prayer Group, Martha’s Circle, FIRE and Youth Ministry, Monday Night Bible Study, Kingdom Weekend and served a term as Council President. Gail was both intelligent and creative. She loved word games, board games, Jeopardy, and other trivia challenges along with card making, scrapbooking, cake decorating and baking for friends. After retirement she collected stamps from many State Parks, as well as passport stamps from places throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. Memorial donations may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church Youth, 2650 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL 60435. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Friday, June 24, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2650 Plainfield Road, Joliet, for a celebration of her life from 2:00 until 6:00 PM followed by a 6:00 PM service with interment if her ashes in the church columbarium. Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Plainfield, was entrusted with arrangements.
