Charles "Chuck" Binau Obituary

Charles Richard Binau, 83, passed peacefully to be with the Lord after a struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Allerton, Iowa on July 28, 1938. He passed on May 21, 2022. Charles was the devoted husband of Twyla from their wedding on June 5, 1960 until her death on February 3, 2018. After their marriage, they started farming and lived in the same house in which Charles was born. They moved many times: Corydon, Iowa in ’73, West Des Moines, Iowa in ’76, Gravois Mills, Missouri in ’81, Overland Park, Kansas in ’82, and finally returning to West Des Moines in December 2010. Charles graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agriculture. After an accident forced him to leave the farm, he worked in various endeavors before retiring from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a computer programmer in 2000. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church who always enjoyed singing in the choir. He loved volunteering with the Lions Club wherever they lived, and he served as President of the Overland Park Host Club. Charles was an avid fan of the KC Royals and the Chiefs. He is survived by sister Dorothy (Dave) Higdon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Ronald (Kathy) Levis of Rolla, Missouri and Donald (Cindy) Levis of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter Carol (Rick) Broman of West Des Moines; son Mark (Lisa) Binau of Valley Center, Kansas; three grandchildren: Katelyn (Robert) Bonus, Steven Binau, and Rachel Binau; many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Cremation has been accorded and services will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon on Tuesday, May 31. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with service directly following at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Allerton Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association of Iowa Chapter in Ankeny.
