Elizabeth Oten Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Oten

July 21, 1933 - May 20, 2022

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Oten (nee Williams), 88, of Prosser, WA passed peacefully from this world to her eternal home in glory on May 20, 2022. She was born in Waterbury, CT and grew up in Cheshire, CT. Betty was preceded by her beloved husband, Peter, her high school sweetheart and spouse of 69 years. She is survived by her five children, Peter D. Oten Jr. (Jamie) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Timothy Oten (Nancy) of Prosser, WA, David Oten (JoLynn) of Racine, WI, Kathleen Young of Prosser, WA, and Patricia Evans (Patrick) of Tomball, TX. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Betty’s greatest legacy was her steadfast faith. She passed that faith on to her husband and children and watched as it was propagated through two more generations. She loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and from the overflow of that love she freely loved others. She found peace and joy each day spending time in God’s word and in prayer. She kept lists of people in need that she prayed for daily, led women’s bible studies, worked in soup kitchens, and lived by her favorite verses, Proverbs 3:5&6. Although she had a big heart, she also possessed the wisdom to “tell it like it is” when necessary, yet was quick to forgive and encourage. She always made sure everyone felt included, thought of, and loved. In addition to her devotion to family and friends, she served as an example of how to fully live in this world, studying to be a registered nurse after her children were grown.

We will miss her laugh, her smile, her presence, her embrace. We will miss her playfulness, her correction, her good‑natured humor. Most of all, we will miss her unwavering love and acceptance. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. There is only joy now that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and is reunited with Peter.

Inurnment will be held at the East Prosser Cemetery. Those wishing to sign Elizabeth's online memorial book may do so at www.funeralhomesmith.com  Smith Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
