Harris L. Halvorson

Harris L. Halvorson, age 96 of North Kingstown, was called to Heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at home. Born in Rake, IA, he was the son of the late Arthur and Clara (Quame) Halvorson. He was the beloved husband of Mabel C. (Lawson) Halvorson for 68 years. During World War II, Harris served in the United States Navy and earned an honorable discharge. A graduate of Bryant College, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business during the 1950s. Following his active duty, he was employed by the Navy Civil Service at Quonset for 30 years until his retirement. He had a true passion for landscaping and owned his own company, Halvorson Landscaping. His talent for making the outdoors look beautiful was unparalleled and he utilized those talents at Cranston Bible Chapel until very recently. Cranston Bible Chapel held a special place in the life of Harris. Not only was it the church where he served on the Board and as Treasurer for many years, but it was also the place where he and Mabel were married. A member of Gideon’s International, he belonged to the association for 34 years. He was also a charter member of Full Gospel Businessmen’s International, Providence Chapter. Harris was a faithful servant to God and his country, and was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and Grampy. He will be missed by all whose lives he blessed. In addition to his wife, Harris is survived by 4 children: Arthur L. Halvorson and his wife Paula of Manns Choice, PA, Cathy M. Ellingson and her husband Walter of Huntsville, AL, Philip H. Halvorson and his wife Barbara of Easton, ME, and Charles A. Halvorson and his wife Traci of Easton, ME; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his six siblings. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 17 at 4:00 PM at Cranston Bible Chapel, 499 Hope Road, Cranston. His burial at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown, will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to one of the organizations that Harris cared about deeply: Cranston Bible Chapel, 499 Hope Road, Cranston, RI 02921; or to Gideon's International, The Gideons International Processing Center, P.O.
