Marie Stewart Obituary

Marie Stewart was born on April 23, 1948, in Chester, S.C., to the late Robert and Annie Stewart. She was called from labor to reward on May 16, 2022, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. At an early age, Marie left her hometown of Chester, SC, to start a new journey in New Jersey, where she met her life partner, Willie L. Shanklin Jr., and had four children Renee Shanklin, Willie Shanklin, Angela Shanklin, and John Shanklin, and gained two bonus sons Michael Simonson and Mark Simonson. Marie was employed by the Union Township Board of Education as a loving and faithful bus aide until she fell ill. She was a member of the committee for the Transportation Board, South Orange Daughters, and the sisterhood of the Vauxhall Ladies of the Master Player. At an early age, Marie joined and was baptized at Black Rock Baptist Church in Chester, SC; upon moving to NJ, Marie joined and became a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Calvin Shaw, where she served as a senior usher. Marie was a loving, kind, and generous person who will be dearly missed. Marie was preceded in death by her life partner Willie L. Shanklin, Jr., parents, Robert and Annie Stewart, brothers Robert Stewart, James Stewart, McKinley Stewart, Albert Stewart, and John Stewart, and 1 sister Elizabeth Stewart who all welcomed her into the Kingdom. Marie leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children, Renee Shanklin, Willie Shanklin, Angela Shanklin, John Shanklin, Michael Simonson, and Mark Simonson, all of Vauxhall, NJ; 20 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Williemae Stewart, Corina Allen, Barbara Stewart Pressley, all of Summit, NJ, Toya Simonson of Vauxhall, NJ, her home health aide, Shondra whom she loved dearly and would do anything for, her god-daughter, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
