Marion Wayne Newton Moore, Oklahoma Obituary

Marion Wayne Newton

Marion Wayne Newton, age 79 of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on May 15, 2022. Marion was born in Bois d'Arc, Texas, to Marion M. and Reba Newton on July 26, 1942. Marion never had the opportunity to meet his father, as he died in battle during World War II. Mr. Newton had a long and rewarding career as a Lock and Dam Operator for the Army Corps of Engineers, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service.

Marion was a loving family man whose greatest love in life was spending time with those he loved and cherished. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, taking them to the zoo, the Science Museum, and afterwards taking them to get a Braum’s milkshake. He took many memorable trips to Branson, Missouri, where he loved the resorts, shows, and especially, the food. Marion always made a special trip to The Hard Luck Diner to get his favorite milkshake each time he visited Branson.

Marion loved to stay fit and exercise, and he enjoyed attending exercise classes at First Moore Baptist Church and Gold’s Gym. He liked to spend time outdoors, and in his younger years, loved keeping his yard and gardens looking immaculate. He was an avid sports fan who never missed an OU football game and loved to keep up with Thunder basketball and the Dallas Cowboys, too. Marion’s warm, caring heart touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Reba (Wardell) Slagle, and his father, Marion Newton.

Left behind to treasure his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra Newton; one son, Jeff Newton and his wife, Kendra; two grandsons, Jace and Cade Newton; his very special friend and Silver Sneakers Trainer, Allison Hadley; and a host of loving extended family, former colleagues, and friends.
