Maynard "Sonny" Knapp

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Maynard &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; Knapp, age 89, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Ebeid Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Sonny attended the Holland Free Methodist Church, having been a member for over 40 years. Sonny was a United States Veteran and served in the Army during the Korean War. Formerly, Sonny was employed at the University of Toledo, where he was a maintenance supervisor.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Sonny was gifted with carpentry and plumbing skills, and some may refer to him as a &ldquo;jack of all trades&rdquo;. He was always quick to help his friends and family with jobs that needed done around the house. His family will cherish the gifts he has created through his carpentry over the years. He&rsquo;s made toy trains, tractors, stick ponies, and a toy box; all that his children have carried down to their own children. If you knew Sonny even a little bit, you would know he was the biggest Notre Dame fan ever. He knew everything there was to know about the team and their players throughout the years. The family will miss, most of all, Sonny&rsquo;s weekly phone calls and monthly family dinners. Sitting by the bonfire, telling stories, and joining in on good conversation is something they will all hold dear in their memories.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Maynard &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; Knapp was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 21, 1933, the son of Frank and Helen Maynard. He married Jean (Loertscher) Knapp, on March 22, 1975, and she survives.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Left to cherish his memories include his three children, Jonathan (Suzanne) Knapp, Brittany (Jacob) Dusseau, and Matthew (Jennifer) Knapp; ten grandchildren, Bradley Knapp, Kelly (Kevin) Kretz, Isaac, Mattea, Willow, Asher and Marigold Dusseau, and Evan, Hudson, and Brayden Knapp; two siblings, Garry (Sandy) Knapp and Jerry (Sharlene) Knapp. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia Schmidbauer and Sallie Manon. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 3:00-7:00PM at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 11:00AM at Holland Free Methodist Church, 6605 Angola Rd, Holland, Ohio, with Pastor Keith officiating. Burial will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, following the luncheon at 2:00PM.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Fellowship of Christians and Jews or the Cherry Street Mission.&nbsp;</span></p>

He was always quick to help his friends and family with jobs that needed done around the house. His family will cherish the gifts he has created through his carpentry over the years.
