Online condolences at www.jostfuneralhome.com Life Sketch Taken from the Funeral Bulletin Nellie Jost, 93, passed away May 15, 2022 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was born on May 3, 1929 to Bernhard and Barbara (Loewen) Hamm in Hooker, Oklahoma. As a young girl she enjoyed drawing, sewing and playing basketball. She was baptized at a young age and loved serving the Lord. She often talked about the daily devotions her family shared each morning. Gathering the eggs was one of her daily chores. She told stories of doing her sisters’ hair, sewing clothes and cooking for the family. After graduating high school in Oklahoma, she moved to Hillsboro and attended Tabor College for 1 year. While at Tabor, she met Norton Jost. They married on September 3, 1950 in Adams, Oklahoma; and had six children. She is a member of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, where she enjoyed serving on the kitchen committee and quilting with the ladies. Nellie was a home maker with many talents. She had a “green thumb” and loved to grow plants and flowers. She spent many hours raising kids, cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting. Her skill at cooking lead her to a position in the Tabor College cafeteria. We always knew it was Saturday when the smell of zwebach was in the air. She made sure that each of her children and grandchildren received at least one of her hand-made quilts. In her later years she did slow down but tried to keep busy with activities at Parkside. They included working on her quilts in her apartment, playing bingo and spending time outside watching people and the beauty of the world God created. Many of the staff members commented on her quiet sense of humor and their love for her. Throughout her life, she was a woman of prayer. Many hours were spent reading her Bible and praying for her family. Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, Norton Jost, parents, grandsons, Shane Foth and Gary Debbrect; brothers Roland, Alvin and Earnest, sisters Rosena, Bettie, and Charlotte. She is survived by her children Jolene (Bob) Reiners of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Richard (Kelly) Jost of Goessel; Corrine (Bruce) Dyck of Inman; Russell (Edith) Jost of Hillsboro; Carla (Tom) Harmon of Durham and Kris Jost of Newton; grandchildren, Danielle Debbrecht; Brad (Kristin) Foth; Matt (Janie) Foth; Courtney Foth, Michael (Nikki) Jost; Chelsey (Gary) Domke; and Trace Jost; great-grandchildren, Noah, Caleb, Britton, Harper and Sophia Foth, Kaya and Amarie Lowery, Wyatt and Remington Jost; one sister, Frieda Kidd of Everett, WA and one brother Michael (Jane) Hamm of Colorado Springs, CO.
