Susanne Marie Phillips, 79, of State Center, entered eternal life with Jesus on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her loving family by her side. A Celebration of Life for Susanne will be held on June 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of State Center. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Susanne and her family. Susanne O’Neal was born on August 4, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to George and Marjorie (Flanigan) O’Neal. She was united in marriage to Jerry Phillips on January 18, 1961, in Waterville, Minnesota. They made their homes in Stanhope, Zearing, and then finally moved to State Center in 1974. Susanne worked as a home health aide in Marshalltown, a dietary aide at West Marshall Schools, and on the assembly line at the Bourns factory in Ames. She was a member of the Kiwanis with her husband, Jerry. She enjoyed helping with dinners for the Lions Club at the Methodist Church. She especially loved going places and spending quality time with her family. Traveling and sightseeing cross country in Jerry’s semi- truck was always an exciting adventure for her! She looked forward to Wednesday morning coffee with friends, bible studies, and attending the Presbyterian Church with her daughter. Her love for Jesus led her to explore other churches and attend gospel events as well. Susanne was always eager to attend craft shows, work in her flower garden, and watch movies with friends. Anyone that knew her would say she had the biggest heart and was extremely giving of her time and talents. Susanne is survived by her children: Dan (Suzette) Phillips of Renton, Washington, Donnie Phillips of Ellsworth, and Dawn (Gary) Gehling of State Center. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kendra (Tony) Dante, Kara (Zwai) Mtumkulu, Kristian Phillips, Tatton Phillips, Tavis Phillips, Tayne Phillips, Talyn Phillips, Maegan (Mitch) Bode, Jessica (Ashley) Millizer, Amanda Darrow, and Cameron Darrow, and eight great- grandchildren. Susanne is now happily reunited with Jerry and her parents! John 14:3 "And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
