Revonda Mae Lail Matthews, 84, of Conover passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at her residence and is now with her Heavenly Father. She was born July 27, 1937 in Catawba County to the late Willard Theodore Lail and Maggie Idabelle Wilhelm Lail. Revonda was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conover and a graduate of Hickory High School. She was full of life and enjoyed taking trips frequently to the mountains of NC and TN with her husband, Richard. In her earlier years, Revonda was employed as a bank teller and also as a nursing assistant at Frye Regional Hospital. During 1965 thru 1986, she was a stay-at-home mom raising her children lovingly and from 1973-2010, Revonda served as secretary and treasurer for three family-owned businesses. She volunteered numerous hours in the classroom at Conover School, tutored middle school students that had no traditional families and taught Sunday School at Concordia Lutheran Church for young adults with intellectual disabilities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Patricia Ann Lail, and Loretta Faye Lail Abernathy. Those left to cherish her memory are; Husband of 57 years: Richard C. Matthews of Conover Daughter: Kimberly Matthews Harshaw of Hickory Brother: Charles Wayne Lail of Granite Falls Grandchildren: Brittany Pennell Ledford, Cody Pennell, Logan Pennell, Justice Harshaw, Jordan Harshaw, Laci Matthews, and Haley Matthews Great-Grandchildren: Audrey Lee, Adylin Ledford, Claira Ledford, Mila Ledford, and Cayson Ledford A service to celebrate Revonda’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Dr. Ed Yount will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service. Those serving as pallbearers are; Cody Pennell, Logan Pennell, Jordan Harshaw, Isiah Cooper, Chris Ledford, and Mark Harshaw.
