Thomas B. Gibbs

<p>Thomas B. Gibbs, age 85, of West Manchester Township, York, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Wellspan York Hospital. &nbsp;He was the loving husband of Anita L. (Waltemeyer) Gibbs.</p> <p>Born October 22, 1936, in York, the only child of the late Herbert J. Gibbs and the late Margaret G. (Briggs) Gibbs Gross, he was a 1954 graduate of William Penn High School, where he was the founder of the York High Alumni Band.&nbsp; He served honorable in the US Marine Corps Reserve and then traveled the world as a member of the US Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps.&nbsp; He retired from Aldersgate United Methodist Church York. He was passionate about teaching young students the art of drumming for over 30 years.&nbsp; He performed in many bands throughout York County including the York Kiltie Band and Red Lion Felton Band.</p> <p>He was a second generation volunteer firemen for the Eagle Fire station No. 7 for over 40 years in York city. He was a member of the Friends of Gettysburg, Civil War Preservation Society and Aldersgate United Methodist Church were he sang with the Belfry Boys and choir.&nbsp; He was also very active in the Boy Scout of America, as both a scout and a leader.</p> <p>Tom was an avid reader who enjoyed sharing his love for Civil War history.&nbsp; He looked forward to attending reunions and luncheons with his Air Force buddies. Tom also cherished spending time with his family at Laurel Lake and vacationing at the beach in Wildwood, NJ.</p> <p>In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Gibbs is survived by a son, Brian T. Gibbs and his wife Mandy, of York; a daughter, Lona E. Mitchell, and her husband Mark, of York; three grandchildren, Karen A. Bean, Kelli L. Randolph (Ryan), and Kendrick B. Gibbs (Hannah), a first great grandchild expected in July; and many loving nieces and nephews.</p> <p>Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 South George Street, York. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 PM. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fireman&rsquo;s Relief Fund, PO BOX 607, York PA 17405 or Wellspan VNA Home Care, 2500 South George Street, York, PA 17403.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
