Horace Woods

Horace Woods was born on May 21, 1934, in Athens, Alabama. He was one of five children born to the union of the late Albert Woods and Sybil Woods (Sanders). Surrounded by family, Horace departed this life on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Horace was educated in the Alabama public school systems and later moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he met and married the love of his life, the former Millie Young. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. Horace retired from Sullivan & Cozart, a renowned construction company in Louisville. He was a member of the Laborers International Union Local 576, the Prince Hall Parkland Masonic Temple, and a member of Riverside Church in Clarksville, Tennessee. Besides spending time with his family, Horace loved baseball, enjoyed fishing and was crafty with his hands. Horace is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Lewis, Annie O. and Linburgh Woods; three sons, James, Howard, and Ricky Woods; and one daughter, Mary Frances Young. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 40 years: Millie Young Woods; one sister: Eleanor Woods of Louisville, KY; two daughters: Carolyn Dinwiddie (Grover) of Clarksville, TN, and Anna Mitchell (Fred) of Louisville, KY; and five sons: Alford Young, David (Karen) Young, Roy Stewart, Charles “Billy” Woods and Horace Kent, all of Louisville, KY. Horace’s legacy lives on in his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
