Joan A. Schutts

Joan A. Schutts, 75, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. Born in Trenton, Joan has been a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1964 and later graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1968 where she received her bachelor’s degree in education. Joan began her career as a Kindergarten teacher at the Maple Shade Elementary School in the Whitehorse section of Hamilton. In 1968, she accepted a position as one of the original Kindergarten teachers at University Heights Elementary School. She served there for 25 years until her retirement from the Hamilton Township Board of Education in 2002. For years, Joan and many of her colleagues from University Heights met the last Friday of each month for special dinners where they loved to reminisce and stay current on all the happenings in one another’s lives. In addition, she enjoyed luncheons with a group of classmates from grammar school through college. Upon Joan’s retirement she enjoyed traveling extensively. She and her husband Richard enjoyed over 60 cruises together, with Bermuda being one of her favorite destinations. She also loved summer vacations with her family. Above all else, Joan cherished family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was very involved in their lives. She and Richard were their biggest fans, regularly attending their sporting and musical events. Joan also enjoyed hosting family Christmas. She would bake and cook for weeks before the holiday, always making everything from scratch. This was a labor of love she enjoyed each year. Predeceased by her mother, Mary (Muccioli) Robinson; she is survived by her husband of 36 years, Richard J. Schutts of Hamilton; her daughter, Charlene Cardone of Jackson; her step-daughters, Christine Reed and her husband, Michael, of Bordentown and Michele Schutts of Hamilton; her four grandchildren, Salvatore B. and Gianna Cardone, and Brianna and Lindsay Reed of Bordentown; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Colleen Robinson of West Windsor and Robert and Annia Robinson of Lithuania; her two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Strigel and her husband, Gregory, of Hamilton Square and Janice Walker and her husband, David, of Mt. Holly; her special cousins, John Muccioli, Evelyn Hawrylak and Bonnie Muccioli; and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at St. David the King RC Church, 1 New Village Road., Princeton Junction, NJ 08550. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at St. David the King RC Church, 1 New Village Road., Princeton Junction, NJ 08550.
