Dwayne Theodore Wendell Obituary

Dwayne T. Wendell, 73 of Marshfield, Wisconsin passed away on May 6, 2022, as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Funeral services for Dwayne will take place at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield, on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Krueger officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.

Dwayne was born in Butte County, South Dakota on August 15, 1948. He was married to the love of his life, Linda (Fleisner) Wendell on February 28, 1977.  They celebrated 45 years of marriage this year.  He was the proud father of three sons; Jason, Dwayne (D.J.), and Eric. He and Linda were also blessed with nine grandchildren who have been their pride and joy.  They were frequently seen together supporting them at various sporting events and school activities.

Dwayne held a variety of truck driving and mechanic jobs throughout his life. He was owner operator of DW Express for just over a decade until retiring from over-the-road driving in 2005. Dwayne never fully retired, he kept busy doing short-haul work for many local businesses, including his son’s concrete business the past twenty years.

He loved just about anything to do with competitive racing, this included NHRA Drag, NASCAR, even collecting diecast model cars.  He and Linda spent many weekends working at the Marshfield Super Speedway or simply watching a race.  He also enjoyed hunting, boating, and watching his “Purple and Gold” – the Minnesota Vikings.  Grandpa “Dewey” liked working with his hands and had a knack fixing anything with an engine. His specialty was fixing things his boys managed to break. Finally, he was very passionate about his Harley Davidson motorcycles and took many cross-country road trips with his riding buddies.

Dwayne’s Family will cherish the memory of this past Easter Sunday. He had recently repaired a Jeep “go-cart” and spent the sunny afternoon watching his sons and all his grandkids cruising it up and down the driveway. It was hard to tell who was more delighted, the kids or Dwayne, who grinned after every smile, laugh, and cheer that was heard that day.

Dwayne leaves behind his loving wife Linda (Fleisner) Wendell.  His sons; Jason (wife) Melissa, Dwayne (wife) Tara, Eric (wife) Tabitha Wendell. His beloved grandchildren; Connor, Tyler, Lauren, Ava, Charlotte, Anthony, Allison, Easton and Emmy. He is also survived by his siblings; Charlie Wendell, Gary Wendell and Rene Francoviglia.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Wendell and Theodore Wendell, his brother Daryl Wendell, sister LeVe Lund, and in-laws Joseph and Elaine Fleisner.
