Charles Jennings Heuer, 82, of Lead Hill, Arkansas, passed away at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on May 6th, 2022, from aspiration pneumonia at the end of a 12-day hospitalization stay, after he fell and broke his hip. His children were by his side, his daughter was holding his hand.

He is survived by his daughter, Courtney A. Heuer, his son, Justin J. Heuer, his brother, Paul Eugene (Gene) Heuer, his sister, Shirley A. Heuer Kintzel, his niece, Jennifer (Jenny) L. Ferguson, and his nephew, Jeffrey (Jeff) L. Ferguson.

Charles was born on December 1, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa, and was raised in Calamus, Iowa, with his older brother, Gene, and his younger sister, Shirley.

Throughout his childhood, he was always well behaved. He loved to spend time with his dad, outdoors, hunting, fishing, animal trapping, and drilling water wells for work. Throughout his life, people came to know him as quiet, hard-working, kindhearted, polite, and hospitable. As his wife, Barbara, would always say, “he is a good guy.”

Charles enlisted in the army in 1962 and served as a military police officer for three years. He was stationed in Germany during his enlistment, and he thought the country was beautiful. 

In 1966, at 27 years old, Charles was recruited by the Police Department in Evanston, Illinois. He served as a police officer there for 32 years, from July 1966 to August 2, 1998. While working full-time in law enforcement he attended the University of Illinois. He earned his Associates degree in 1974.

In 1977, while on duty, Charles met Annette Davis who he went on to start a family with.

20 years later, after the dissolution of marriage, Charles retired from the police force and went on to live out his dream of living off the land. He found his ideal location and moved to Lead Hill, Arkansas. While living in Lead Hill he met and fell in love with his wife, Barbara A. Sween. They got married January 25, 2005, and lived out the rest of his life with her.

Later in life, he enjoyed playing bridge and dominoes with his friends, family, and neighbors. He found peace watching and feeding the deer and taking care of his family. He really liked watching Law and Order and Old Western movies and shows.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul N. Heuer, his mother, Evelyn A. Heuer.

A memorial service will be held at Lead Hill Baptist Church on June 18th, 2022 at 10 am, officiated by Newton Smith.   Military Honors will be performed.
