Helen Bailey

Helen Bailey, age 90, of Marshalltown, passed away Thursday, May 5th, at the Southridge Specialty Care. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12th, at the Marietta Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Helen Wardman on June 21st, 1931, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter and one of three children born to Christopher John and Leonora (Schneider) Wardman. Helen graduated from the Albion High School. Helen had been married to John Bailey and to that union, a daughter, Deborah and son, David, were born. She had a caring and giving personality that offered several people in the Marshalltown area in-home care. She loved her cats- especially Ms. Kitty, he most recent that she has had since 2010. Helen was a talented wedding cake maker, seamstress for many dresses in the family and for friends, organ and piano player (was church organist for the Albion Presbyterian Church) and enjoyed her family history in Marshall County. She restored the second buggy produced by the Marshalltown Buggy Factory- now shown at the Albion museum- loved playing cards, doing crafts and fishing trips to Minnesota and Lake Michigan salmon fishing. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Deborah (Ronald) Hanson of Marshalltown, son David Bailey of Marshalltown, her grandchildren, brother John Christopher “Bud” Wardman and many lifelong friends near and far. In death, Helen rejoined her parents and her sister, Genevieve Wardman Case.
