A funeral service for Norm Kling will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Pastor Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. A private family burial was held at Orchard Cemetery in Orchard. Norman Alvin Kling was born to Alvin and Alma Kling (Nelson) on the family farm south west of Osage, Iowa on August 18, 1934. At age 9, his family moved to their farm on Rock Creek south of Osage. Norm grew up farming, fishing, trapping and hunting. He also developed a fond interest in hunting for artifacts. One of his proudest finds was of a prehistoric bison skull. As a graduate of Osage Community High School in 1952, Norm went on to serve in the Iowa National Guard in 1957 through 1963. Norm farmed his entire life, doing all of his father’s field work from age 12 on. He refused to ever allow himself to be considered retired, even stating he still farms while in the hospital this year. He enjoyed cattle, horses and field work priding himself in alfalfa hay and the best beans in the area. Norm and his wife Jo Dell (Johnson) were united in marriage on August 27, 1967 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Osage. They moved to his grandfather’s farm in Floyd County were they raised their two sons. Norman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Norm enjoyed several hunting trips to Wyoming with friends Larry Lovick and Jim Seglem. He later made several hunting trips to Nebraska with his Son Daniel. Norm also loved to fish at Shields Lake with his family and his lab Duchess. Helping with the Fort Robinson State Park Buffalo roundup every fall was another favorite adventure. Norm is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo Dell; son, Daniel and wife Laura; son, David and wife Arlen; grandchildren: Corinne Lopez and husband Antonio, Joshua Kling and wife Morgan and Katlynn Jones and husband Ty. Norm was recently blessed with his first great grandchildren Aiden Jones and Emberlee Lopez. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Kling.
